As a mom of little ones, at-home family portraits are near and dear to my heart. I love the excuse to sneak into someone’s cute little family bubble and capture some memories for them to put up on their walls. So when the Noll Family wanted to celebrate their baby girl with some cozy photos, I was more than excited to head out to them!
A Unique Setting: The Airbnb Schoolhouse
When I arrived at the family’s property for their newborn session, I was immediately in love with the setting. Nestled at the back of their yard was a beautifully converted one-room schoolhouse that was now a charming Airbnb.
The schoolhouse exuded a sense of history and warmth that was lovingly preserved, but the interior was equipped with all the freshest modern touches that enhanced every corner of the space. It was the perfect backdrop for a heartfelt family session, and I couldn’t wait to start capturing memories in such a magnificent space!
The Comfort of Home: Why At-Home Sessions are the Best
There’s something extraordinary about doing photo sessions in a family’s familiar space. Being in their surroundings means everyone is more relaxed and comfortable, which was certainly true for this lovely family.
Being at home is especially nice for little ones. It allows for quick changes when needed, whether it’s a diaper mishap or a sudden need for a feeding. The convenience of having everything at hand makes the session flow smoothly, keeping the baby calm and content. It was a delight to see the baby girl’s parents so at ease, knowing they could pop over to their house any time to save the day.
Capturing the Sweetness of the First Year
As we snapped away, I was aware that it was an honor to capture this sweet and quick season. Babies grow so fast, and those precious first-year moments are gone in the blink of an eye. From tiny toes and sleepy smiles to the way they nestle perfectly in their parents’ arms, every detail is a treasure.
I love the intimate, everyday moments that define life with a newborn. The gentle way the mom cradled her baby girl, the proud smile on the dad’s face as he held his daughter, and the soft, peaceful expressions on the baby’s face as she trooped along with her parents. These are the moments that tell the story of a family’s love, and they are a joy to document.
The Joy (and Humor) of Photographing Little Ones
I also love that photographing children always brings an element of fun and unpredictability to a session. Their candid reactions are often the best shots of the day. In this session, although the baby girl was the star, the playful interactions between the parents and their new daughter added a whimsical touch. The little surprises are what make photographing young children such a joy—they bring a lightheartedness and spontaneity that is truly delightful.
